Mark Haggerty is a senior fellow on the Energy and Environment team at Center for American Progress. With a reputation as a nonpartisan expert committed to practical solutions, Haggerty is engaged in efforts to develop a comprehensive national policy that aligns climate, energy, and public lands conservation goals with rural communities’ economic success.
Haggerty previously worked for more than a decade at Headwaters Economics, where he oversaw a robust research portfolio focused on rural economic development, natural resource management, and fiscal policy. He also worked on agricultural and Indigenous conservation projects in New Zealand and helped build private land conservation programs around Yellowstone National Park. He has served on local boards and planning commissions, provided expert advice to state legislatures, and testified to Congress at the invitation of both Democrats and Republicans.
Haggerty holds a bachelor’s in economics and master’s in geography from the University of Colorado. He lives in Bozeman, Montana, where he co-owns millions of acres of public lands and waters with his family and friends.
Jillian Blanchard is Lawyers for Good Government’s Vice President of Climate Change and Environmental Justice and a nationally recognized attorney in energy and natural resources law. Blanchard has worked in all levels of government, nonprofit, and the private sector on environmental, infrastructure, and climate change issues for over 20 years. In 2018, she helped craft Governor Gavin Newsom's climate change platform as part of his reelection campaign and regularly advises cities and public agencies on infrastructure, environmental, and energy issues. As VP of the Climate Change and Climate Justice Program at L4GG, she has managed over 400 lawyers to help provide critical guidance to cities, states, and nonprofit partners to help expedite the country's shift to a clean and equitable green economy and to address environmental justice.
Jeremy Symons is a Senior Advisor at the Environmental Protection Network. For more than 20 years, he has worked to advance solutions to climate change and other public health and environmental threats. He is Principal of Symons Public Affairs, where he provides consulting services for non-profits, philanthropies, and universities. Symons served at U.S. EPA as a climate policy advisor until he left in 2001. More recently, he was Vice President of Political Affairs at Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and a senior advisor to EDF Action, the advocacy partner of EDF.
Prior to joining EDF in 2013, Symons served as Deputy Staff Director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, where he was part of the Senate Democrats’ leadership team on a range of environmental issues and nominations. Symons worked for 12 years at National Wildlife Federation (NWF), where he became Senior Vice President for Conservation and Education, responsible for overall leadership of a team of more than 200 talented and dedicated staff throughout the nation.
